Long-Term Independent Study

Program Overview

French Gulch-Whiskeytown School District offers a Long-Term Independent Study option for students who are unable to attend school in person due to specific, documented circumstances.

Independent Study is designed to ensure continuity of instruction when in-person attendance is not feasible, such as in cases of:

  • vaccination exclusion,

  • medical need, or

  • temporary housing instability.

Independent Study is a structured instructional program and is not a preference-based alternative to on-campus instruction.

Program Expectations

Students participating in Independent Study are expected to:

  • engage consistently in assigned learning activities,

  • complete assigned work in a timely manner, and

  • meet regularly with a certificated teacher.

Attendance credit is earned only when assigned work is completed and evaluated as satisfactory by the supervising teacher.

Independent Study placements are approved for defined periods of time and are reviewed regularly based on student engagement, academic progress, and program capacity.

Availability & Approval

Independent Study placements are limited and subject to staff capacity.
Approval is not guaranteed and may be deferred or declined based on instructional and operational considerations.

Families interested in learning more about Independent Study may contact the school office to request additional information.
